A dark tale for the hours of darkness. Do give it a read, comment if you so wish, for now here is:-<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The Hanging Tree by John Riley\/Thomas Flyte<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">A tender young man o&#8217;er by hanging tree<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">did see another maid on bended knee,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">with cut briar rose for one grave urn<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">and silent thought until weather turn.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">When lunar face shining bright and full<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">and night time beckons at rainfalls lull,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">cast in shadow upon hillside mound<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">beneath tree a man waits his mistress found.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Court does this suitor a maiden so fair<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">and startles appearing from out of nowhere.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">From behind gravestone to offer his charm<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">while skies turn stormy at nature&#8217;s alarm.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Their love did grow from that stormy night<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">a secret courting o&#8217;er full moonlight.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">He feels the warmth of her tiny hand<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">upon the hilltop where they stand.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">And so did nature send storms and rain<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">that crash and bang but all in vain.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Soaked to the skin they dash on foot<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">to shelter in old gravedigger&#8217;s hut.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">She steals a kiss from lips so cold<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">forgetting the things she&#8217;s been told.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">His skin so pale and ice to touch<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">now townsfolk cry its all too much.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">In unhallowed plots sleep the brokenhearted<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">necks pulled long when life soon parted.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Bewitched by a love who never dies<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">those stolen kisses under stormy skies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 10pt;\"><em>All Rights Reserved copyright John Riley\/Thomas Flyte<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/jonathanharker.co.uk\/theghostlyworld\/gargoyle-iii\/\">back to previous episode<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/jonathanharker.co.uk\/theghostlyworld\/the-burden-of-proof\/\">forward to next episode<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/jonathanharker.co.uk\/theghostlyworld\/\">back to list of stories<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here&#8217;s another little piece set out in verse.
